A bold custom residence finished with Permacon Lafitt Stone in Rockland Black, matching black mortar and foundation-anchored steel support angles.
Project Overview
Dark architectural stonework supported from the foundation
Ottawa Masonry Contracting Inc. completed the exterior masonry for this custom home in Drummondville, Quebec. The installation extends across the front gable, large window openings, long side walls, exterior corners and covered outdoor sections.
Permacon Lafitt Stone in Rockland Black was paired with black mortar to create a continuous charcoal finish. The matching joints reduce visual contrast between individual units while the stone's varied lengths, heights and textured faces maintain depth across the broad elevations.
Several wall sections did not have a suitable masonry ledge. Steel support angles were therefore measured, levelled and anchored directly into the concrete foundation before the first stone courses were installed. This concealed preparation created a dependable bearing line and transferred the masonry load back to the foundation.
The dark masonry complements the home's large windows, timber roof details and strong gable geometry. This special project was completed outside the company's regular Ottawa and Eastern Ontario service area and remains an important example of custom stonework combined with structural masonry support.
The Masonry Work
Structural preparation followed by controlled stone installation
Bearing details, wall transitions and modular layouts were coordinated before the finished black stone concealed the work.
Steel Support Angles
Anchor locations were drilled into the concrete foundation. Each steel angle was fastened and checked for level to establish a straight, reliable support line for the masonry above.
Stone Distribution
Lafitt units were distributed to balance long and short pieces, reduce repeated vertical joints and preserve a natural pattern across large walls and changing elevations.
Openings and Corners
Course heights were checked around windows, doors and covered areas. Clean corner work carries the black stone naturally from one elevation to the next.

One deep charcoal finish across every visible elevation
The completed Drummondville Black Stone Home presents a continuous dark masonry base beneath its timber roof structure and broad glass openings.
Rockland Black stone, matching mortar and accurate corner work allow the separate wall sections to read as one architectural composition. The concealed steel supports provide the required bearing beneath selected elevations.
Consistent courses and controlled joints preserve the strength of the dark exterior while giving the textured Lafitt units enough variation to remain natural from close range.
