Architectural stone for The Gingerbread Man
Ottawa Masonry Contracting Inc. completed the commercial exterior stone installation for The Gingerbread Man in Manotick, Ottawa.
Permacon Lafitt Stone in Range Newport Grey creates a durable masonry base with natural colour variation and a textured, cut-stone appearance. The modular pattern works with the building's black windows, garage door, balcony and structural posts.
The scope covered the principal storefront, entrance, garage wall, exterior corners and connected side and rear elevations. Course planning around doors, windows, steps and the accessible ramp kept the stonework continuous across changing wall conditions. The same material now gives every visible side of the property a consistent commercial identity. Balanced unit sizes also help the installation read clearly from the street while preserving clean transitions beneath the upper siding and beside the large glazed openings.
The Masonry Work
Commercial preparation, detailing and complete exterior coverage
The installation combined organized site access, building-envelope preparation and controlled stone layout around active commercial entrances and multiple openings.
Access and Staging
Scaffolding, masonry materials and compact equipment were positioned within the narrow work area. The setup maintained practical access around the entrance, garage and neighbouring properties as the work progressed.
Foundation Transition
A 3M membrane protected the transition between the concrete foundation and framed wall before it was covered. Porch, stair and opening details were reviewed before the first courses were established.
Modular Stone Layout
Large and small Lafitt units were distributed to limit repeated joints. Regular level checks, balanced cuts and clean corner returns carried the Newport Grey pattern around the building.

The Completed Stonework
A unified and durable commercial exterior
Range Newport Grey stone now connects the storefront, garage, entrance, balcony base and side walls through one architectural material. Its grey tones complement the dark openings while giving the renovated building a stronger street presence.
Consistent courses and controlled joints continue around corners and through changes in elevation. The completed masonry supports the character of The Gingerbread Man while providing a practical exterior finish for Ottawa's seasonal conditions.
