Modern stonework with a strong architectural finish
Ottawa Masonry Contracting Inc. completed the exterior stonework for this custom home in Stittsville, Ottawa. The masonry connects the front entrance, garage opening, window surrounds, projecting corners and adjoining side walls in one consistent finish.
Permacon Lafitt Stone in Range Newport Grey was selected to complement the dark window frames, rooflines and concrete stairs. Its textured face and varied unit sizes create the appearance of cut stone while giving the façade natural movement and depth.
Installation began along the main front elevation and continued through the entrance, garage and adjoining wall sections. Keeping the courses connected across these architectural transitions gave the home a unified appearance instead of treating each area as a separate stone feature.
The Masonry Work
Preparation, precision and a clean final result
Each stage was planned to keep the modular pattern aligned across openings, corners and connected wall sections. The photographs below document both the concealed support work and the visible craftsmanship that define the finished exterior.
Wall Preparation
Before installation, the crew reviewed the wrapped building envelope, foundation heights, membrane transitions, stone ledges, anchors and scaffold positions. These support details were prepared before the first visible courses were installed.
Stone Installation
Varied Lafitt unit sizes were arranged to reduce repeated joints and maintain a balanced pattern. Clean vertical edges and corner units carried the masonry naturally around the entrance, garage, windows and projecting walls.
Final Cleaning
After the masonry had cured, a controlled pressure wash removed mortar haze, surface residue and construction marks. The cleaning revealed the full Newport Grey colour variation without changing the intended joint profile.
