Project Overview
Two architectural stones shaped around a modern residence
Ottawa Masonry Contracting Inc. completed the exterior stonework for this luxury custom home in Carp, Ottawa. The masonry extends around the entrance, garage openings, tall windows, front walls, side elevations and rear sections.
Arriscraft Opal Laurier Building Stone combines long, clean lines with a rocked finish. Its light colouring complements the dark windows, garage doors and entrance canopy while adding texture around the columns and prominent corners.
Arriscraft Cambridge Renaissance Stone in Birchbark introduces larger 12×24 units and a limestone-inspired appearance across the extended garage walls. Controlled transitions, consistent joints and aligned courses allow both products to read as one balanced exterior.
The Masonry Work
Accurate stonework completed through winter conditions
The project required careful coordination between two stone formats, precise work around large openings and controlled cold-weather protection during part of the installation.
Two-Stone Layout
Opal Laurier units create varied texture around the entrance, windows and projecting walls. The longer Birchbark units establish clean horizontal lines across the garage while maintaining deliberate transitions between materials.
Openings and Corners
Straight vertical edges frame the garage doors, entrance and tall windows. Carefully arranged corner units carry the stone naturally around columns, projecting sections and changes in direction.
Winter Protection
Temporary enclosures, protective tarps and controlled heat sheltered active work zones from snow, wind and low temperatures. Stone, tools and scaffolding remained protected while installation continued.
