Project Overview
Two architectural stones, one coordinated exterior
Ottawa Masonry Contracting Inc. installed the exterior stonework for this modern custom home in Nepean, Ottawa.
Permacon Lafitt Stone in Range Newport Grey defines the tall entrance and garage features with natural colour variation and a textured, cut-stone appearance. Permacon Aria Stone in Heron provides smoother faces, fine horizontal lines and a lighter tone across the surrounding walls.
The masonry scope extended from the principal façade to the garage, entrance, side walls and covered rear terrace. Window openings, exterior corners, stone sills and projecting sections required careful course planning so the linear Aria pattern remained continuous. The contrast between both products gives the residence depth without separating its connected elevations into unrelated finishes.
The Masonry Work
Material transitions, window details and continuous courses
The installation paired two distinct textures while maintaining disciplined lines around large openings, corners and changing wall conditions.
Contrasting Feature Stone
Lafitt units were distributed across the tall vertical accents to balance their modular sizes and natural grey variation. These textured sections add visual weight beside the garage and main entrance.
Linear Aria Layout
Smooth Heron stone was installed in long horizontal courses beneath windows and around the side and rear walls. Level checks kept the fine lines aligned across corners and projecting sections.
Openings and Returns
Stone sills, corner units and measured cuts established clean returns at large windows and terrace openings. Controlled joints preserve the pattern while limiting narrow or visually awkward pieces.

The Installation Result
A balanced contemporary masonry exterior
Newport Grey Lafitt stone establishes the strong vertical features, while Heron Aria stone links the garage, entrance, windows, side walls and rear terrace through continuous horizontal courses. Dark window frames sharpen the contrast between both grey finishes.
The photographs document the masonry while other exterior finishes were still under construction. Even at this stage, aligned sills, clean corner returns and controlled material transitions clearly show how the two-stone design unifies the residence from front to back.
