Newport Grey stonework built around a wide contemporary design
Ottawa Masonry Contracting Inc. completed the exterior masonry for this luxury custom home in Greely, Ottawa. The stone installation connects the front façade, garage openings, entrance, side walls, exterior corners and rear foundation sections.
Permacon Lafitt Stone in Range Newport Grey was selected for its subtly shaded grey palette, textured face and varied modular sizes. The masonry gives the light exterior finishes a strong architectural base without making the low-profile residence feel visually heavy.
Dark windows, black garage doors and natural wood details sharpen the contrast. Longer stone units reinforce the home's horizontal proportions, while taller pieces add enough variation to keep the broad elevations natural and balanced.
Because the stone continues beyond the street-facing façade, course heights had to remain coordinated around changing foundation levels and window positions. This gives the side and rear elevations the same deliberate finish as the entrance and garage, creating a complete masonry package instead of a decorative front accent.
The Masonry Work
Controlled courses across openings, corners and long elevations
Layout decisions were coordinated before installation so the same modular pattern could continue cleanly through every visible area.
Wall Preparation
Foundation heights, wrapped wall surfaces, windows, garage openings, entrance walls and rear sections were reviewed before the first visible courses were installed.
Course Alignment
Regular level checks maintained straight horizontal lines along the home's wide side walls. Varied Lafitt sizes were distributed to reduce repeated joints and awkward narrow cuts.
Openings and Corners
Clean vertical edges frame the garage doors, entrance and windows. Corner units carry the stone naturally around each change in direction and into adjoining elevations.
