Manotick Waterfront Stone Home
A River Road residence combining Granada Rockland Black and Contempo Dover stone with coordinated black and cream mortar.
Project Overview
Two stone finishes across one waterfront exterior
Ottawa Masonry Contracting Inc. completed the exterior masonry for this Zaid's Custom Homes residence on River Road in Manotick. The work connects the road-facing façade, side walls and tall waterfront elevation around large windows, gables and a covered terrace.
Brampton Brick Granada Stone in Rockland Black forms the dark architectural sections. Its textured surface was installed with black mortar to create a deep, unified appearance.
Contempo Stone in Dover provides the lighter contrast. Cream mortar softens the joints and complements the home's modern windows, rooflines and waterfront setting.
The Masonry Work
Structural support, precise transitions and controlled access
The project required more than coordinating two stone colours. Support conditions, mortar selection and access around the pool area all influenced how the installation progressed.
Steel Angle Support
The left elevation lacked a continuous masonry bearing ledge. Steel angles were positioned at the required height and mechanically anchored into the concrete foundation to create a stable, level base for the stone veneer.
Stone and Mortar Coordination
Granada and Contempo were laid around windows, corners and projecting walls with consistent joint width and tooling. Black and cream mortar reinforced each material while clean transitions connected the contrasting sections.
Waterfront Access
Changing ground levels, the pool and tall rear walls required organized scaffolding and telehandler deliveries. Work was sequenced with framing, windows, roofing and the covered terrace while keeping limited site access controlled.

The Finished Masonry
A balanced exterior from River Road to the water
The completed masonry scope uses light and dark stone to define the home's major forms without separating the exterior into unrelated sections. Dover brightens the broad wall surfaces, while Rockland Black adds depth to the central features and selected elevations.
Level starting courses, structural steel support and controlled mortar joints carry the masonry around windows, corners, gables and the covered terrace. The same material language remains visible from both the road and waterfront sides.
The result is a modern Manotick custom home whose masonry responds to the architecture, site conditions and contrasting material palette as one coordinated exterior system.
