Polar White masonry for a contemporary Barrhaven residence
Ottawa Masonry Contracting Inc. completed the exterior stone installation for this modern custom home built by OGC Custom Homes in the Onassa Springs community of Barrhaven.
Brampton Brick Finesse Stone in Polar White gives the residence a bright, clean masonry base. Its long 8×24 format reinforces the horizontal architecture and contrasts with the dark doors, window frames and rooflines.
The scope connected the entrance, garage openings, windows, columns, exterior corners and lower front, side and rear elevations. Accurate preparation kept the large units aligned across changing ground conditions and multiple openings. Course planning also reduced narrow cuts beside dark frames and garage returns, preserving the full-unit proportions wherever the architecture allowed.
The Masonry Work
Site access, envelope preparation and precise course alignment
The installation required coordinated access around rocky terrain and careful detailing before the first large-format course was set.
Rocky Site Access
Rock and uneven soil were cleared to establish safer routes for scaffolding, pallets and equipment. A skid steer prepared the perimeter while a telehandler positioned material near the active elevations.
Membrane and Flashing
Tyvek transitions, 3M membrane, foundation flashing, lintel protection and window-sill details were coordinated before coverage. Openings remained protected as the stone progressed.
Laser Layout and Ties
A laser established the first-course elevation across long walls. Galvanized ties, measured cuts, controlled joints and clean corner returns maintained consistent 8×24 courses.

Polar White stone now connects the entrance, garage doors, windows, columns, corners and lower elevations. The light masonry creates a strong contrast with the black openings while giving the large residence one continuous architectural line.
Level courses and controlled joints carry the 8×24 units through changes in elevation and around multiple openings. The result is a precise, durable masonry installation suited to the home's modern design and Ottawa's climate.
